Welcome to Just Riding Along Bicycle Shop!

Just Riding Along Bicycle Shop (JRABS) is suburban Maryland's newest bicycle store. We are nestled in the small community of Laytonsville, in Northern Montgomery County. Laytonsville is the gateway to country roads in the northwest corner of the D.C. metro area. For years cyclists have met at the other end of our parking lot to depart for their weekly rides.

Although we sell road bike frames and bicycles from great companies, complete bicycle service is our specialty, as JRABS started out as a mobile repair shop and continues to be the go-to shop for bicycle service in Suburban Maryland. Many stores are big and have unbeatable prices, but the employees don't know much about the products they sell. Others have shop guys that know everything about bicycles but don't make you feel welcome. We are the store that has the knowledge, the great price, the best products, and lets you know that you're always welcome.

The products we sell are chosen for their exceptional quality, providing bicyclists with the best ride possible. Because of this, you might notice brands that are not "mainstream" or have huge advertisements in major publications. The brands that we sell are from companies with a passion for cycling, and are not just trying to sell as many "units" as possible. We offer products from brands like Bianchi Bicycles, Kona, Lynskey, Cinelli, Campagnolo, Velocity, White Industries, Speedplay, Continental, Fizik and many more!

Please feel free to stop by our small shop, where water, air, and advice are always free and plentiful! Ask our knowledgeable staff for a bike fitting, or you can also browse our online catalog to find cycling products to enhance your riding experience. New products are added daily. If you don't see what you're looking for here, please don't hesitate to call us or shoot us an email.

Thanks for visiting,

Travis

We start with Chris King’s new R45 hubs for the absolute best all-around choice of low weight, strength, power transmission, and looks. From there we move to Sapim’s CX-Ray spokes. Known the world over as the premier choice of top wheel-builders, these spokes feature the highest strength-to-weight ratio of any spoke on the planet. They also feature an aerodynamic profile which helps to speed up acceleration. These premier stainless steel spokes are actually used in downhill mountain bike competitions to get racers to the bottom of the hill faster through aerodynamics while still maintaining the superior strength needed. To round out the set we offer two different rim options: For the ultimate in strength, and a rim that will take everything you can dish out we suggest going with the HED Belgium rim. For those who want to try out the newer tubeless technology or if you want THE LIGHTEST set, we suggest going with Stan’s Alpha 340 rim. Our own Travis uses the rim on these wheels and loves them - They’re strong, light, aerodynamic, and convert easily to tubeless. We lace the front wheel in a 2-cross pattern for the best overall combination of strength, comfort, and aerodynamics. Radial spoke patterns look cool, but are the least comfortable way to go. Aerodynamic resistance does not change by reducing the number of cross sections, because, at the top of the wheel where the spokes are moving the fastest in relation to air mass, changing the cross pattern does not change the face the spokes present to the air. Radial spokes do put stresses on the hub in directions that the flanges are not designed to withstand and may lead to sudden failure. For optimal power transmission and comfort, we use a 3-cross pattern on both sides of the rear wheel. Radial lacing reduces the torsion stiffness of the wheel and for this reason should never be used on a rear wheel, even if just used on the left flange (which does do part of the job of transferring torque to the rim from the hub). To equalize spoke tension and to further increase spoke tension, the left side is tied & soldered. Stan's rims: 590gr front + 760gr rear = 1350gr HED rims: 684gr front + 825gr rear = 1509gr Black hubs Black spokes Black spoke nipples (except the drive side, which are brass) Black rims
